Ch#5 Journal Writing reading reflection.

Dialogue Journals is the good way to get to know children better by having a dialogue or conversation in dialogue journal. It affects not only relationship between teacher and children but also children’s writing in response to teachers’ requests.

“Dialogue journals are especially effective in promoting the writing development of English learner .Researchers have found that these children are more successful writers when they choose their own topics for writing and when their teachers contribute to the dialogue with requests for a reply, statements, and other comments(Reyes,1991)”

“Partners engaging in this process communicate regularly with students picking and initiating topics while a more proficient writer writes back, responds to questions and concerns, and asks follow-up questions.”(Peyton,1997;Staton,1987)

Ch#4 Assessing children’s writing reading reflection.

We can help children to be better writers(sophisticated writers) to measure how well children are using the writing process by using process writing assessment such as observing, conferencing, collecting, and scoring.

“Assessment provides information about what writers know and what they can do. It’s something that teachers do every day, in one form or another. (Anderson,2005)

“Because proficiency in written expression requires the intergration of multiple skills, the assessment of writing is a complex endeavor.”(Tindal& Marston,1990)

Ch#2 Writing workshop reading reflection

We can help children to become interested in and feel responsible for their writing to have time in daily schedule for writing workshop, and children could be provided many opportunities to use writing process in writing workshop.

“No matter which way teachers use writing workshop, its great benefit is that children become familiar with the ebb and flow of the writing process and experience the exhilaration that all authors feel as they publish their writing and share it with readers.”(Tompkins, p,34)

"Writing Workshop is an interactive approach to teaching writing as students learn and practice the importance of rehearsal, drafting/revising, and editing their pieces of writing" (Calkins, 1986; Graves, 1983).

Module11 reding reflection

Children are natural poets. They have a natural affinity for songs, verses and rhymes. Babies and preschoolers respond positively wwhen thier parents repeat Mother Goose rhymes, read A.A.Milne's Winnie-the-pooh sotires, and sing songs to them. older children continue this interest in poetry as they create jumproperymes and other ditties on the playground. Miss Clark's students affirm this interest in poetry they are enthusiastically involved in reading and writing poetry and think of themselves as poets. Jack Prelutsky and other poets have createed many collections of poems that spark children's interest in poetry. These poets write about topics that appeal to children, such as poltergeists, parents and dinosaure. When children know how to write poems and use poetic devices, they can create vivid word pictures, powerful images and emotional expressions.(Tompkins 243)

Module 3 reading reflection

The posittion in this book is that teachers have the responsibility to teach children how to write, and part of that resposibility is teaching children the strategies and skills that capable writer use(Dudley- Maring & Dippo, 1991 - tompkins)
Teachers have the responsibility to teach the students who show a lack of skill and strategies in their writing. the illustration of Ms. Boland showed us clearly how theachers' attitude should be toward the students who are lacking in writing. By her writing instuction, her students who were used to be novice writers started to use the strategies and skills that capable writers use .
So It is crucial to teach students both the writing strategies and skills effectively.

At every grade level, teachers must incorporate strategy instruction. Direct instruction in targeted at identified weaknesses evident in student writing in order to improve writing performance.(Hillocks, 1986- Graham 36p)
Balanced instruction ensures that the texts students compose have sentneces that are grammatically correct as well as unified around a topic or central emotion.(collins 1997)

As what Min Gyu Kim said that " To be good at writing, people should learn strategies and important skills when trying to come up with a composition or writing"
Teacher should teach both strategies and skills in balanced way and studnets should also learn the writing strategies and skills in same way.
